Pic1On a very wet night Sydney Chapter heard from Geoff King, Acting Group Manager City Strategy about Parramatta City Council's journey towards developing a smart city using asset management principles.

The discussion covered the growth context for Parramatta, Sydney’s central city, history and learnings of the council's smart city program and a description of more asset management related projects, and of course a good discussion on future possibilities.

Overall, the discussion that followed from the chapter members with Geoff described the need for continual challenging of the status quo, linking asset management processes with digital engineering, and listening and placing the customer and community at the heart of asset management decision making.

Key takeaways included: asset management systems and their corresponding frameworks, digital engineering, research and development, trial management, collaboration between private and public entities, customer and community focus leading to improved decision making.
