Recently, members of the Brisbane chapter visited RACQ's CareFlight facilities to view and understand more about their asset management and maintenance practices. The site visit was sold out, and below is a brief descriptions of RACQ's capabilities, as well as photos from the evening.

careflight

CareFlight is a world leader in aeromedical care and Australia's most diversified service with both a fixed and rotary wing fleet. From rapid response to inter-facility transfers, CareFlight's team of 400 doctors, aviation crew and support staff help sick and injured patients around Australia and the world get the medical care they need.

As a leading Australian charity, CareFlight operates 11 medically equipped rescue helicopters and 2 air ambulance Learjets across 14 locations. Seven of these are CareFlight’s own aeromedical bases. CareFlight supplies doctors, nurses and paramedics to all Queensland rescue helicopters and the iconic Royal Flying Doctors aircraft.

CareFlight has airlifted over 40,000 patients over the last 3 decades and serves both the community and industry clients, operating a charitable service and ‘profit for purpose’ commercial enterprises that helps fund their charitable activity. Surplus profit from CareFlight’s social enterprises are used to make sure their community helicopters remain on standby 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Each of Careflight’s aircrafts requires significant technical maintenance to ensure their safe and reliable operation. Helicopters must be able to land on difficult, unprepared terrains and must do it in such a way that ensures the highest safety for the patients and crew aboard and on the ground. Equally the aircraft are maintained to withstand and operate in harsh environmental conditions to support the flight crew to effectively and safely undertake each rescue mission. In order to combat this, CareFlight’s highly skilled and dedicated engineering team maintain their aircraft to the highest level of safety at all times. CareFlight is able to achieve a very high level of aircraft availability for both rotary and fixed wing operations through highly qualified technicians and specialists and utilisation of industry best-practice systems
