A new purpose-built rail facility in Kangy Angy, NSW, is nearing completion. The rail facility will support the New Intercity Fleet trains delivered by TransportNSW that will service passengers travelling from Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle, Blue Mountains and the South Coast.
The multi-million dollar Kangy Angy rail facility will be operated by UGL Rail who will service and maintain the New Intercity Fleet trains. The 500,000 square metre site boasts six kilometres of electrified railway, with seven tracks at its widest point. Other key features include:
- Fleet maintenance building
- Six standing roads
- Auxiliary workshops
- Electronic clean room
- 50- tonne wheel lathe
- Automatic train wash
- Site access roads1
The site is not yet fully operational, with minor finishing work due to be completed in some areas. The delays have been caused by the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 restrictions to work but plans for the site to be fully operational are on track for later this year, timed perfectly with the rollout of the new fleet of trains.
