Maintenance and Asset Management of Industrial Assets: Emerging Trends in Tribological Practices
Professor Raghuvir Pai, President – Asset Management Society of India & Professor of Mechanical Engineering Manipal Academy of Higher Education
The tribological behaviour of rotating and sliding parts in industrial assets plays a decisive role in influencing the life of these parts. Understanding the tribological aspects and behaviour of machine components by maintenance professionals is important to improve performance and productivity. A knowledge of tribological principles helps in developing and applying these tools and techniques necessary for effective maintenance.
A significant impact on maintenance and asset management has been made in recent years by machine learning, data analytics, artificial intelligence, Remote Performance Monitoring and Internet of Things. In this study, the tribological aspects related to maintenance, reliability and asset management are analysed. The outcomes of this study are beneficial to engineers and managers in order to recognise and realize the relationship between tribology, maintenance and reliability for better asset management.
