In Australia’s north, the Mobile Control and Reporting Centre at RAAF Base Darwin holds responsibility to ‘prepare for, conduct and sustain effective deployable air surveillance and air battle management in the Unit’s designated area of responsibility’1. The unit’s simulation and communication assets are distributed across multiple defence sites.
With a history dating back to World War II, the unit has been deployed in Afghanistan, Malaysia, and Papua New Guinea.
Recently, a five-year $65 million contract awarded to Australian-owned Daronmont Technologies will ensure that the ADF’s Mobile Control and Reporting Centre will continue to provide vital surveillance, battlespace management and communications services2. The contract will give scope to broaden Daronmont’s role to develop simulation and laboratory systems for additional ADF programs.
