The Royal Australian Air Force will establish a Space Division, with the federal government investing $7 billion1 into space capability. The continued research into space domain awareness builds on our nation’s relationships with the United States and other key partners. It is expected that the Space Division will be launched in early 2022.

Access to space is crucial to Australia’s security, and a key driver into the establishment of the Space Division. What is learned from space capabilities is critical in providing situational awareness of communications, navigation and GPS systems, understanding weather patterns and fluctuations, information sharing across the nation and globe as well as military operations2. The Space Division will also be responsible for delivering capabilities that answer questions about space as a contested domain.

The information that will be gleaned from the Space Division cascades into all aspects of asset management. Our transport industry, energy providers, governments and businesses alike all benefit from space exploration.
