The Global Forum on Maintenance and Asset Management (GFMAM) has released The Asset Management Landscape ISBN 978-0-9871799-1-3 as a building block to provide a common overview and perspective of asset management and its various features.
While the discipline of asset management has developed significantly over the last two decades, so too has a number of asset management approaches, standards, models and principles, across the globe. It has become clear that there is benefit in aligning these by collaborating with other organisations to develop a global view on asset management. Most evident for this need is the increasing number of companies operating asset management systems in multiple countries.
Within the Asset Management Landscape document is a common core asset management language. The asset management principles and the list of subjects have been derived from an international review of asset management models and assessment methodologies which identified and distilled 39 asset management subjects. These subjects are part of the core and enable GFMAM members to compare, contrast and align their knowledge and practices.
Each GFMAM member will incorporate the landscape as part of their Asset Management Framework, which shows how and where a member’s knowledge and practices fits in. The framework will provide greater access to guidance and best practice material on asset management, as well as common definitions relating to asset management and how maintenance contributes to asset management. It will also increase the availability of international case studies.
