AMCouncil Melbourne members caught up for lunch yesterday and to discuss the value of asset valuations. Rosie Foldvari was first up to talk about asset depreciation for accounting and tax purposes and how to manage the differences that inevitably arise. As part of this Rosie considered how sharing of data between finance teams and asset management teams can ensure more accurate depreciation policies, based on true asset lives, and help finance teams manage the level of granularity required by the Australian Capital Allowances Legislation.

Last Tuesday, Perth Asset Management enthusiasts were treated with an excellent session on “Applying Digital Asset Management to get the most from our physical and information assets”. Asset Management Council would like to thank the speakers Matthew Cheney, Helen Forte & Yvonne Power for sharing their experiences in this field. Ankur Maheshwari, Asset Management Council’s Perth Chair, led the event. Ankur mentioned that the event was very well attended by a very diverse audience across multiple sectors. Audience participation was amazing and the panel session was very lively.

Our New Zealand neighbours held their annual asset management symposium last Thursday along the theme of realising value in New Zealand’s changing environment; emerging trends in asset management. Topics included: The New Zealand 30 year infrastructure strategy; Assuring availability of national assets, complex asset management in the Royal New Zealand Navy; A Central Hawke’s Bay District Council case study on adding value by integrating ‘right-sized’ progressive asset management into infrastructure management; The asset management value proposition, an asset owner’s observations; Sustainable buildings and the asset manager’s role; and asset management, how we might take a Te Ao Māori approach.
