The Asset Management Council has released the next issue in its series of e-books exploring commonly asked Asset Management Questions. This paper addresses the belief that there is no difference between maintenance based on the assessed condition of an item and the maintenance of an item that degrades to the point of functional failure.

Arguably, a greater professional input is needed into the maintenance and reliability engineering of these assets, yet few universities offer such content in undergraduate engineering degrees.
