Name: Robert Sloan

Brief work history:
I hold a Masters Degree in in Business and Technology and have worked for Ausgrid and its previous incarnations for the last 39 years starting as an Apprentice Electrical Fitter / Mechanic, completing engineering and business qualifications whilst gaining experience of all aspects of the Electricity Network – construction, maintenance, design, project development, project management, contract management, asset management and strategy and safety and environmental management. Why did you first join the Asset Management Council?
I was appointed to a role responsible for the asset strategy for a power distribution network and joined as a member of MESA, that then became AM Council and I have a passion for maintenance and asset management.
Why did you take on the role of Sydney Chapter Chair?
I had held the positions of Chapter Secretary and Deputy Chapter chair for a number of years and was encouraged by the chapter members to take on the Chapter Chair role last year.
My thoughts on: Leadership and Culture and the impact of Assets on Safety and Environmental outcomes
These areas that I believe needs more focus. I am keenly interested driving positive cultural change related to asset and people management to deliver improved cost savings, safety and environmental outcomes.
Three interesting facts about me:
1. I have restored and continue to maintain a 1982 Chevrolet Corvette.
2. I like to take the Corvette on car club drives with my wife.
3. I keep Kio carp, Gouldian finches and tropical fish.
