Last night, the Melbourne Chapter of the Asset Management Council hosted an enlightening technical presentation and networking event, shining a spotlight on the iconic Puffing Billy Railway. Titled “Melbourne – Five Tales of Asset Management: Puffing Billy Railway – from Compliance to Community,” the event took place on 28 February, drawing professionals from across the industry.
Bret Butler, Group Manager, Infrastructure at Puffing Billy Railway, captivated us with insights into managing over $100 million worth of assets that span 125 years of history. From heritage-listed rolling stock to cutting-edge architecture along 25 km of rail corridor, Bret outlined the unique asset management challenges and opportunities faced by Puffing Billy, especially in the context of pre-COVID times and looking ahead to the future.
The evening was not just about technical learning; it was a vibrant networking opportunity for members to connect, share ideas, and discuss the future of asset management in such a dynamic sector.
A big thank you to Bret Butler for his engaging presentation and to all our members and guests who joined us. Let’s continue to drive excellence in asset management, learning from unique case studies like Puffing Billy Railway.
