Winners and aspirants to an Australian Maintenance Engineering Excellence Award (AMEEA) can credit long time MESA member Peter Kohler with being the driving force behind the growth of the asset management industry’s most prestigious award.

AMEEA attracts entries which reflect leading edge asset management practices and achievements as well as being the focus for increasing recognition of the asset management discipline by industry.

That recognition is in the form of sponsorship for both the awards themselves and the annual International Conference of Maintenance Societies (ICOMS) events at which the awards are made.

Peter Kohler attracted key sponsors from industry during his two year tenure as AMEEA chairman.

He became a member of MESA in 1993, motivated by the need to learn more about asset management and to ultimately make a difference to Australia.

Peter nominates learning about asset management and the opportunity to meet many other like minded people among the key benefits of MESA membership.

“The collective focus and will of MESA reflects the rapidly developing maturity of its membership,” says Peter, a former career naval officer and now principal of Sydney-headquartered engineering consultancy Capability by Design (CBD).

“CBD believes in a learning environment and that everybody is on a learning journey. MESA provides a valuable learning resource, able to deliver real knowledge and hence some competitive advantage to Capability by Design.

“MESA will become the leading asset management organisation in Australia, delivering conferences, courses and a range of learning experiences in asset management – together with the development of an asset management body of knowledge!.

“The value of MESA membership will rise considerably in the future as a result,” he says.

Presently a steering committee member and AMEEA Councilor, Peter Kohler was formerly chairman of MESA’s Sydney chapter for four years, deputy national chairman, MESA national chairman for two years and chairman of ICOMS2004.
