AMCouncil Directors supporting Asset Management Academia

In a significant showcase of industry-academic collaboration, Directors of the Asset Management Council (AMCouncil), Sarah Hannah and Toby Horstead, are slated to deliver keynote presentations at the upcoming International Conference on Maintenance and Intelligent Asset Management (ICMIAM). The conference is organised by Federation University and is set to take place from the 6th to the 8th of December in Ballarat.

He provides leadership and strategic direction on asset management best practices, and investment planning efforts to align with ongoing sustainability and modernization initiatives, while achieving customer service excellence. Known for building trusted relationships, he collaborates with multiple stakeholders to reach consensus and optimize investment decisions for the successful delivery of complex and challenging capital projects. Llewellyn also serves on the board of directors for the Canadian chapter of the Institute of Asset Management and is passionate about helping organizations unlock the value from their investments.

Sydney – Asset Management Policy for the NSW Public Sector 4 Years on

The Asset Management Policy for the NSW Public Sector, TPP 19-07, was introduced in October 2019. Its purpose is to drive improved asset management across the public sector. The policy sets out the core asset management practices that the NSW Government expects agencies to adopt in order to meet service delivery objectives efficiently.

The presentation will provide an overview of the policy and assess its effectiveness to date in enhancing AM capabilities. It will also highlight the common asset management challenges faced by public sector agencies in an increasingly complex environment.

Josh Milner, Associate Director – Transport, Infrastructure and Investment, NSW Treasury

Josh is an experienced public servant with strong skills in public policy, finance, and governance. As an Associate Director in NSW Treasury, Josh works closely with his Infrastructure NSW colleagues on the implementation of the Asset Management Policy for the NSW Public Sector across the NSW Government.

Webinar – The Evolution of Whole Life Cost Modelling and Asset Class Strategies at Manitoba Hydro

Manitoba Hydro is an integrated utility in Canada. They have a number of assets in the electrical distribution, generation, and transmission energy streams, as well as the delivery of natural gas. Travis Lavallee, Head Office Asset Advisor, will focus on how initial approaches to whole life cost modelling were first developed and utilised to create long term forecasts for the major powertrain assets in the generation stream. It will also explore recent developments to integrate these whole life cost models as part of an asset class strategy, making the tools scalable to allow the approach to be used across the fleet of assets to provide meaningful insights at the class level.

Travis Lavallee, P.Eng, Asset Advisor (Asset Management Division), Manitoba Hydro, Canada

Travis Lavallee is an Asset Advisor for Manitoba Hydro, within the Asset Management Division. His primary responsibilities are to facilitate the development and optimization of strategies and investment scenarios on a range of asset classes within the Transmission, Distribution and Generation energy streams. Previous to his role in Asset Management, Travis spent the majority of his career working on Major Capital Projects at Manitoba Hydro, specifically during the design, procurement and construction phases of Wuskwatim and Keeyask Generating Stations. Travis holds a Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) degree from the University of Manitoba.

Peter Dourlein, a seasoned Service Director and Asset Management consultant, has had a comprehensive background in all facets of Asset Management. With an extensive career spanning Rail, Road, and Port Infrastructure, Peter’s expertise encompasses planning, design, project delivery, maintenance, and strategic management. Peter rejoined Arcadis in October 2021 in his most recent role, spearheading Asset Management services’ development and global expansion. He is also a co-founder of the Dutch chapter of the Institute of Asset Management, having served as an IAM NL Country Executive and presently as a member of the IAM Competence Framework Steering Committee. Peter’s notable achievements encompass a central role in establishing and expanding ASSET Rail, a Rail Maintenance Service Provider jointly owned by Arcadis and Dura Vermeer. Here, he evolved from a Maintenance Engineer in 2005 to overseeing consultancy and tactical Asset Management services in collaboration with the ASSET Rail CEO. Over the years, he has also held pivotal positions and contributed to projects for esteemed organizations and asset management entities across Europe and the Middle East, including ProRail, RET, MRDH Transportation Authority, European Container Terminals, Qatar Rail, RFF/SNCF, LISEA, HS1, and Network Rail. Beyond his professional roles, Peter shares his knowledge through guest lecturing at universities and serves as an advisory board member at Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. His expertise frequently lands him as a sought-after conference speaker, with mentions in national newspapers and magazines.
