Water Corporation’s approach to climate change risk management: optimising effort to our adaptation strategies:

The Water Corporation has been managing the impacts of a drying climate since the 1970’s through water source diversification to supplement decreased dam inflows and declining groundwater allocations. However, climate change will also create risks more broadly to our water, wastewater and drainage network. A systematic risk-based approach is required to better understand the impact of climate change on our ability to deliver our services to our customers, community and the environment.

Dylan Pritchard, Specialist – Asset Management System & Risk, Water Corporation

Dylan Pritchard is an experienced environmental scientist and risk management specialist from the Water Corporation in Western Australia. Dylan has previously worked for an environmental consultancy, undertaking contaminated land investigations on behalf of a variety of clients, then transitioning to support the environmental investigation of treated wastewater reuse schemes across WA at public open spaces. Dylan is currently leading a project forecasting risks from changing climate patterns to infrastructure, leveraging his knowledge of environmental science and asset risk management to integrate climate change considerations into the existing asset management processes.

Georgina Hurst, Principal – Performance & Forecasting, Water Corporation

Georgina Hurst is an experienced Principal of Strategy and Performance with 20 plus years’ experience in infrastructure asset management within the water sector. Georgina has previously led the development of Water Corporation’s annual Strategic Asset Plan and the Waterwise Perth Action Plan, a cross agency plan to address the impacts of climate change, to transform Perth into a leading waterwise city by 2030.
