The UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction recently published a document entitled “Principles for Resilient infrastructure”.  A set of six interconnected Principles for Resilient Infrastructure are detailed:

  • Continuously learning
  • Proactively protected
  • Environmentally integrated
  • Socially engaged
  • Shared responsibility
  • Adaptively transforming

This offers a holistic approach to ensuring the resilience of infrastructure, with suggestions for progress and action to protect critical infrastructure systems.  The principles are intended for use by governments, business and international organisations interested in improving national infrastructure resilience.  This resource provides guidelines for creating national-scale resilience and key actions for resilient infrastructure.  It emphasizes the importance of understanding the interdependent nature of infrastructure systems and the potential vulnerabilities within them.  Access the document at https://www.undrr.org/publication/principles-resilient-infrastructure
