Ivica Ninic last week presented an introduction to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and how it relates to asset management. He discussed the purpose of PHA and provided a brief overview of the key tools used to analyse process hazards. He also took us through a practical application of hazard analysis to ensure the safe and prolonged operation of assets.

Throughout Ivica’s webinar, he:

  • Provided a high-level overview of PHA studies of HAZOP, Bow Ties and LOPA; and
  • Illustrated how the outputs of the PHA studies can be used to:
                • Identify safety-critical activities that need to be prioritised to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of process hazard controls; and
                • Develop leading performance indicators to monitor process safety risk.

Through this insightful webinar, we gained an appreciation for PHAs and how their outputs can be operationalised to minimise dynamic risk and monitor performance.
