Melbourne, 17 June 2009 – Students, leaders and organisations committed to optimal asset management were included as recipients of the prestigious annual Asset Management Council Awards.

“The Asset Management Council Awards is an opportunity to celebrate the significant contribution individuals and organisations are making to the advancement of asset management,” said the Asset Management Council National Chairman, Mr John Hardwick.

The Awards recognise organisations who are on the journey of continuous asset management improvement. In the Asset Management Excellence Awards category, EnergyAustralia (NSW) was the recipient of a Gold level achievement, and RailCorp (NSW) was the recipient of a Silver level of achievement.

EnergyAustralia Operations Investment Manager – Transmissions Mains Mr Gary Winsor said the Awards “gave us the opportunity to recognise the huge effort everyone had put in across the entire organisation.”

RailCorp Manager Infrastructure Facilities Mr Matthew Jones said the Awards “gave us an opportunity to benchmark ourselves against a nationally recognised model. It was also an opportunity for the team to get a sense of what they have been able to achieve so far.”

EnergyAustralia was the recipient of the Founders Plate, recognising improvement in asset management.

EnergyAustralia was the recipient of the Nominee Award, recognising the highest level of achievement for the year. EnergyAustralia will go on to be a finalist at the 2009 Australian Engineering Excellence Awards, hosted by Engineers Australia as recipient of the Nominee Award.

The Asset Management Council Awards also recognises individual achievement in asset management leadership, and student innovation in the field of asset management.

RailCorp General Manager Strategic Asset Management Mr David Spiteri was the recipient of the Asset Management Leadership Award, recognising leadership excellence and understanding of the role asset management has in the success of an organisation

In the Student category which recognises excellence in asset management related studies, Monash University Mr Hein Botes was the recipient of the Postgraduate Award, and the University of Western Australia Mr Adrian Kefford was the recipient of the Undergraduate Award

The recipient of the Best Review Paper Award was Mr Glen Murphy for his paper ‘Building Bridges and Solving Rubiks Cube: Tribalism in Engineering and Technical Environments.’
