On August 15, 2024, the Auckland University of Technology Conference Centre was the hub for insightful discussions and forward-thinking strategies at the New Zealand Asset Management Symposium. Themed “Sustainable Infrastructure for New Zealand’s Future,” this hybrid event brought together leaders and experts both in person and online to tackle the critical challenges facing our infrastructure.

Keynote speaker Vincent Minett, Director of Investments at WSP New Zealand, set the tone with a powerful address on bridging the infrastructure gap, emphasizing the need for innovative funding and financing solutions to build a resilient Aotearoa New Zealand. This was followed by compelling presentations such as Russell Bond’s exploration of Napier City Council’s emergency response strategies and David Norman’s economic forecast in “Shifting Sands: Where to for the NZ economy and infrastructure?”

The day culminated in a dynamic panel discussion, where experts from various sectors, including Myles Lind from Auckland Transport and Grant Hodges from WSP NZ, debated the pressing issue of justifying and funding investments to enhance the resilience of our existing infrastructure.

With updates on the GFMAM Asset Management Landscape and the latest revisions to ISO 55001:2024 by John Hardwick, and an overview of the asset management state of play from Andrew Hagan of the Infrastructure Commission, attendees left with actionable insights and a renewed commitment to driving sustainable infrastructure solutions for the future.
