Presentation 1: Myth Busting – Predictive Modelling

Predictive modelling is a statistical technique which used to predict future behaviours by analysing historical patterns. It is used across many sectors to assist with decision making in maintenance workload and budget forecasting. There are a lot of questions and myths surrounding the modelling process as it is a more specialised area in asset management, and hopefully we can answer some of the questions and myths in today’s presentation.

Jason Yu, Asset Data Scientist, Ventia

10 years of experience in Asset Management and 5 years in predictive modelling, with a strong background in roads, motorways and tunnels. Worked in various transport projects and tenders cross Australia and New Zealand.

Presentation 2: Asset Management – More than just Operations & Maintenance

When we think asset management, most of us would jump to the “operations and maintenance ” phase and how we most effectively manage the life of the asset from when its operational to end of life. There is no question that the operations and maintenance phase is largely important within the asset lifecycle however, the decisions made in the demand/need phases of a project have the greatest influence to ensure the delivery of optimal asset management outcomes. Yet, we often aren’t considering the long-term view of our assets within our portfolio until after these early project phases are complete.

Since recently starting in her new role at TfNSW as Director of Investment and Portfolio within the Greater Sydney division, Lucy’s role is to support the division make the right decisions  to deliver value to customers across the whole asset lifecycle from the demand/need phase to renewal/disposal. Within her role, she guides the definition of the portfolio which is where the greatest influence can be made on achieving value outcomes through TfNSW’s existing and future assets. In such a large and complex organisation, there is never a perfect solution and Lucy’s role is about finding the most optimal trade-off between cost, risk and performance.

Lucy Nitschinsk, Director Investment and Portfolio, Transport for NSW

Lucy has been with Transport for NSW for just over one year and has worked as both a Senior Manager in Asset Management and currently as the Director of Investment and Portfolio within the Greater Sydney Division. Both of these roles have seen her working with the Transport Modes to understand the divisional strategy around managing our current and future assets and identifying opportunities for improvement to better deliver customer outcomes.

Lucy is a Civil Engineer by trade and has experience working in the transport sector across the entire asset lifecycle as a Designer, Project Manager and Asset Manager for both the public and private sector. She is a Chartered Professional Engineer in the Asset Management area of practice. Lucy’s favourite assets are railway bridges and to her partners despair, often requests detours on holidays to visit and embrace photo opportunities with those of interest (particularly heritage ones)- alas there are not that many in Australia.
