His simple but effective message of ‘your assets were designed for climate A and we’re already in climate B’ really resonated!

Martin Kerr is the AMCouncil representative on the Standards Australia MB-19 Committee which is the Australian mirror committee for the International ISO/TC251 Committee. The ISO/TC251 committee is the group that looks after the ISO5500x group of Asset Management standards.
In this presentation Martin will provide an overview of the groups of asset management standards and the work of the ISO/TC251 committee in review and update of these standards. He will detail changes to the standards and advise how you can contribute to the work of the committee and provide feedback to these important standards.
About the speaker:
Martin Kerr is our representative on MB-19 and the current convener of ISO55001. Martin is a Certified Fellow in Asset Management (CFAM) and a Certified Asset Management Assessor (CAMA). Martin is the founder of Structured Change Pty Ltd, co-author of Living Asset Management Maturity, an active AMBok team member and an Asset Management Maturity Assessor for the Council. Martin is also the Technical Manager of the WPiAM CAMA team and a project member at the GFMAM.

Globally, we are seeing a rise in frequency and impact of natural catastrophes that are being exacerbated by a changing climate. Our climate has already changed, it is physically bigger, it holds more energy and when that energy is released it creates more disruption than our operations and assets are often designed for. Asset managers must adopt approaches to managing portfolio physical risk that better reflects the uncertainty of our operating environments.
This presentation will discuss:
- Identify: Climate change, systemic risk and asset portfolios
- Measure: How to assess physical climate risk across large asset portfolios
- Manage: Observations on asset portfolio risk and how to manage them
About the speaker:
Henry Elderfield, Manager – Risk Advisory, Aurecon
Henry is an experienced risk manager with a diverse range of international experience in climate change risk management, asset portfolio risk management, international security and counterterrorism, and crisis management.
Henry specialises in physical climate risk assessments to inform operational resilience initiatives and financial market disclosure frameworks for large physical asset portfolios. He has designed and executed portfolio climate risk assessments for S&P500 and ASX50 companies.
Henry focuses on aligning climate risk management to business performance, which means:
- Adopting existing enterprise management frameworks
- Identifying key operational and business functions to assess climate risk against
- Deriving the incremental effect of climate change on existing risk profiles
Henry has a degree in International Relations majoring in Diplomacy, Masters Degree in Business majoring in Applied Finance. Henry also hold an Associate in Risk Management accreditation from The Institutes.
