The Sustainability and Resilience in Asset Management (SRiAM) Special Interest Group is at the forefront of this challenge, and we are excited to announce an opportunity for Asset Management Council members to contribute to this vital field. We are calling for expressions of interest to join a new Working Group focused on “Approaches for the Holistic Assessment of Climate Event Impacts.” This initiative is not just a call to action; it’s an invitation to be part of a groundbreaking journey.

SRiAM Launches first of a series of Discussion Papers

We are proud to announce the release of the first of a series of SRiAM Discussion Papers: “Embedding Sustainability Principles in Asset Management – Key Considerations.” This initiative, led by the AMCouncil’s Sustainability & Resilience in Asset Management (SRiAM) Chair Mary Irwin-Davies and her dedicated team, Ankur Maheshwari, Hanane Fares, Aneurin Hughes, and Lachlan MacLean marks a pivotal moment in our journey towards sustainable asset management.

Webinar – Hills M2 Motorway Sustainability Achievements – 2023 AM Sustainability Excellence Award Winner

In 2022,Transurban (with the support of its incident response and maintenance contractor, Ventia) achieved significant sustainability outcomes at its Hills M2 Motorway asset. Innovative solutions were deployed, in line with asset management best practice, resulting in success in diverting waste from landfill, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, generating biodiversity value and enhancing customer travel.

Independent verification of the sustainability outcomes was undertaken by using the Infrastructure Sustainability Council’s IS Operations rating scheme, and the Hills M2 Motorway was subsequently certified at an “Excellent Operations IS Rating”, with a score of 69 points-the highest operations rating within the industry

About the speakers:

Colin Rymer, Head of Asset Management Systems and Governance, Transurban

Colin has extensive asset management, strategy and commercial experience across infrastructure, utilities and aircraft. He has worked at Transurban for the last 8 years supporting the NSW motorways to improve asset performance for our road users. Prior to Transurban, Colin worked with Sydney Water and the Royal Australian Air Force in the fields of asset management, logistics and maintenance support. Colin has a Doctorate of Business Administration and is passionate about leadership and high performing teams.

Troy Mattiazzo, Maintenance Manager, Ventia

Troy is the Incident Response and Maintenance Manager for Ventia’s NSW Motorway and Tunnel contracts with Transurban. Troy’s experience includes working within Transurban’s asset management framework to deliver civil maintenance across the Eastern Distributor, Cross City Tunnel, Lane Cove Tunnel, Hills M2 Motorway and M5 Southwest Motorway.

Troy is passionate about sustainability and innovation and is constantly working on initiatives that deliver better outcomes for stakeholders. One of the most recent initiatives that Troy has helped to champion is the deployment of the new Electric Incident Response Truck, that is expected to save around 50 tonnes of carbon dioxide and equivalent gases per annum.
