Drinking water from Rossarden, a small regional town in Tasmania, has won the prestigious international award of Best Municipal Water 2021.

The Berkley Springs International Water Tasting event is held annually in Virginia, USA. It is the first time the award has gone to drinking water from Australia.

Interestingly, only three years ago, water from Rossarden was under a ‘Do Not Consume Notice’ as it was deemed unsafe for consumption. Safe drinking water is necessary for the public health and wellbeing of communities, and therefore TasWater set about upgrading many of its assets. The 24glasses Regional Towns Water Supply Program involved the installation of seventeen water treatment plants, sixteen reservoirs, and more than seventy kilometres of new trunk mains, proving again the cascading benefits of asset management and its far-reaching effects into value for communities and the enterprise1.

The Rossarden Water Treatment Plant is one of the new water treatment plant assets owned and operated by TasWater. Winning the prestigious award is a boon for the state of Tasmania and Australia.
